The Histroy of Ultranote (XUN) - How it all began

Ultranote is a privacy coin which is much similar to Monero but has more features. This article will take you back in time and illustrate how Ultranote was created. This is the history of Ultranote (xun) through the eyes of one of its developers (known as Desp on Discord)

The Histroy of Ultranote (XUN) - How it all began

How it all Began

It all began on the 1st of August 2017, The idea of a  successor coin to XDN coin been discussed in a very small group at XDN Ryver server under the name Protectors of XDN. Old XDN members from Darknote age have suggested waiting at least 1 year from Dnote absence before start messing with XDN code. Then we have decided to give Dnote until December 2017 to give a sign of being alive.
August 3rd, 2017, Rumors started to spread on DigitalNote Ryver about a new coin that is a fork of XDN. The question is, who did it? We still don't know!

2 days later, Hypedev DM me with a link to Github where they have the XDN fork. After looking to the coin GitHub repo they clearly claimed that they are a fork of DigitaNote. The coin was XRY Royalties.
Another hard decision had to be made, whether to support XRY with its fork and present it to the community as a legit fork of DigitalNote  or keep going with our plans for a new coin based on DigitalNote philosophy and tech

It was easy to find XRY bitcoin talk announcement and there we found that they have been running an ICO for XRY coin and by that time it was listed on one exchange at $1 price.
Since all the team members were against ICOs and want to give the community a good and complete solution with high-quality product and coins with a fair chance to everyone. We decided to put our heads in creating a new coin with a new blockchain that have all DigitalNote features.

I must admit, it was a bit hard to fork DigitalNote. dNote has put tons of work on this coin and it had many forks and built on previous coins like DuckNote, DarkNote and finally DigitaNote. XDN wallet had 13 versions. Each fork added some improvements to DigitalNote features.

Our tries to fork XDN have failed many times. Lots of trial and error!

The most annoying thing to us about forking DigitalNote was the cold truth about it's emission curve where 80% of XDN coins been mined under the first year of the coin release and the rest 20% will be mined under about 70 years. Which makes us think twice about this fork.

Days went by and XDN Ryver started losing some valuable members. The community was lost after the big scam of CoinPayments payment gateway and website, where we had gathered as community the listing fee with 1BTC.  But the listing never happened probably because dNote has missed patching the double-spend bug in CryptoNote code. We will never know!

More pressure from the community toward a fast fork of XDN coin and big responsibility and trust been put on XUN devs. We have decided to never let this great community down, With or without a fork. We will stay there fighting their fight and supporting them to the end.

XUN1 - First UltraNote release. "The assassination"

First version of UltraNote were an exact copy or clone of DigitalNote code, Just starting with a new network and new blockchain.
Source codes been built and tested. CLI and GUI wallets built, so do the daemon. All worked just fine! As a normal open source project does, We had our repos open for the public without any pitfalls or hidden problems. "Same code we used was released on our Github"
We started the counter about 48h before releasing the CLI and GUI wallets.

We did last test before everyone can start mining from block 1 "At the same time" and when we started the GUI wallets it's started to sync the blocks one after another and we suddenly reached block 1000. At that point the block reward were 320000 XUN coins, Same as XDN block rewards. Do the math 1000x320000. I was like, WTF is going on? Who is mining and how?
Simple answer, A fellow XUN lover thought that he missed the party and went over to Github. Built our repos and started solo mining. The direct action we took was to kill XUN1 or the first release of UltraNote.
"Mission Failed" Many other honest miners have started mining when the counter stopped and lost their coins same time. Those honest miners we call Oldies. Now there are many Oldies out here in #deleted-channel so don't start searching for them.

XUN2 "The Attack"

We have rebuilt XUN2 with a new network ID and new ports. Released the coin and asked people nicely to go slow on the network since it's still new and it doesn't require big equipment to mine the coin.

Under the first 48h we had about 20 pools with a huge load of hashrate, Add to that Nicehash dudes and Seb_Green attacks on our API ports on official pools. All that power jammed the blockchain and we had to stop the network for about 48h. Many people started complaining and many others have supported us and asked us to keep going.

We are so grateful to all our supporters. Nan, as usual, was the 1st guy to R.I.P XUN2 with his graphic art. Seeing this image on our 2nd announcement on BitCoinTalk brought tears to my eyes. "Not used to fail" Hours after hours and with the UltraNote Dev team support and the community we set back to work to see what went wrong. We can't only blame the attackers. They found a new coin and they want to get out the most of it. Fine!
We are still here working on XDN base code. So we decided to look at the 1st XDN fork which is XRY and decided to make it a mix between XDN, XRY and our own
